The day of queues, and other things.

So, my first real blog entry; I've almost got stage fright. All throughout today - even in the depths of groggy semi awakenings on the plane - I've kept thinking of phrases to use and stuff to include, but now it's got to after 10pm with half a glass of red wine already drunk, and of course I can't really remember any of it. Except the queues. Queues standing around to get off the plane - wicked turbulence as we were eating dinner, by the way! -, mega queues to get through passport control and still 40 minutes of queues to get on the boat to Alcatraz; SO MANY PEOPLE!! Can't even walk in a straight line for more than 5 paces. Not complaining, mind you, just feel a bit like country bumpkins!

Pier 39 delivered up a yummy crepe with banana, strawberry and Nutella - the fruit made me feel a little less guilty about it - and apparently the seafood chowder in a sour dough bread bowl was just as appetising as Steve remembers; unfortunately the fish and chips I ate did not measure up to the Kiwi standard I'm used to.

We found a 7 Eleven on the way back to the hotel - ashamed to say we nearly got lost - so we have milk for the Dilmah tea bags I brought from home. Tried to make a cup of tea when we first got to the hotel, but it ended up down the sink - what on Earth is in the non-dairy creamer?! The smell was enough for me! Well, I am a Pom and I really do need my regular cup of tea to feel human.

Red socks at the ready for tomorrow - GO ETNZ!

And that's me for tonight, brain's died :-) Day One over already! Tomorrow heading out to find a recommended sportswear shop an at such great US prices even Steve is happy to go shopping, especially for running shoes :-) And then we need to get ourselves a nice little vantage point to watch the racing. Shame we can't now see the final race, but hey, seeing some will be fab - as long as we win, and the boat stays upright and in one piece!

  1. Great Stuff. Sad you don't have Yorkshire tea or Yorkshire fish and chips, they both knock Kiwi ones into a cocked hat! You ARE country bumpkin.

  3. Oh, I remember it well. Rather envious as I would do it all again. We loved SF. How long before you ditch the tea bags and resort to being a coffee drinker? Agree with your Dad re Yorkshire delights! Enjoy x
